Mr. Myers has been working for YPICS for the past 14 years. He was originally hired as
a founding teacher and helped to open our first YPICS school, Bert Corona Charter. For the past 5 years, he has supported all three YPICS schools, serving as the Director of Academic Achievement. He is excited to join the MORCS community full time and to work collaboratively to do amazing things in the downtown LA community.
Mr. Myers is originally from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania but moved to Los Angeles after college graduation. He studied Middle School Education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University and received his bachelor’s degree in 2004. In 2009, he earned his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and his clear credential through his studies at National University. He is planning to start his Ph.D. program in the next couple of years and is considering studying at Loyola Marymount University. He loves teaching, spending time with his family, and riding motorcycles. As a teacher, Mr. Myers taught English, History, Science, Advisory, Success for All, and Leadership. Mr. Myers also loves sports, especially soccer, and enjoys playing music on his piano or the guitar during his free time.
Jose Castillo has worked as an administrator at MORCS for the past 4 years. His focus on school culture and climate helps to ensure that all of our students have a great experience at MORCS and that all students have the support they need to continually grow. He works closely with the teachers, parents, and staff to provide resources to our students and families.
Jose has a wife, Nora, and two sons, Santiago and Mateo. He enjoys spending time with his family, and sports are a huge part of his life. He coaches basketball for his boys’ teams and brings his expertise to the school as our school athletic director.
Ms. Karina Gamez has been working for Monseñor Oscar Romero Charter School since the first charter petition was approved by the LAUSD Board of Education on May 22, 2007. Ms. Gamez worked in the Office as the office Manager/Program Coordinator from 2007-2015 before taking on her current role as an Administrator as the Coordinator of Operations (COO). In her current role as COO, Ms. Gamez is our parent advocate and works closely with parents to ensure that they are well prepared to support their children.
Before starting her career at MORCS, Ms. Gamez attended LA Mission College from 1998-2002 and she worked in organizational management at Kaiser Hospitals. Ms. Gamez grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended Telfair Elementary, Pacoima Middle School, and San Fernando High School. Ms. Gamez enjoys dancing Mexican Folklore, which she has been doing for the past 25yrs. She is the mother of three successful children and her youngest is a 9th grade high school student. She is deeply invested in the organization and has been called the “Heart of Monsenor Oscar Romero Charter School” by other leaders at the school and the organization.
Mr. Zepeda has been working for MORCS since 2008. Mr. Zepeda worked as an 8th grade English teacher from 2008-2016 before taking on his current role as the Coordinator of Instruction for MORCS. In his current role as COI, Mr. Zepeda works closely with teachers to ensure that they are supported and prepared to deliver high quality instruction to our students. Mr. Zepeda enjoys working at MORCS because he was raised in the neighborhood and gets to work with students and families that he can relate to.
Before starting his career at MORCS, Mr. Zepeda attended CSULB where he studied English and received his B.A., master’s degree, and teaching credential. Mr. Zepeda grew up in Los Angeles and attended Union Avenue Elementary, Virgil Middle School, and Belmont Senior High. Mr. Zepeda also enjoys playing the guitar and spending time with his two dogs, Waldo and Wenda.
